About the PTFA
Gilesgate Primary School PTFA was founded in 2024 by a small group of passionate volunteers who wanted to make a difference for the children at this primary school. We are parents, members of staff and friends of the school who want to help make Gilesgate Primary School the best it can possibly be.
Everyone is welcome in our PTFA. We have space for committee members, event volunteers, or people who would prefer to just help out behind the scenes. Our work covers craft clubs, in-school competitions and events, and bigger public events, and we are grateful for every volunteer we have, no matter the contribution they make.
Whatever you feel you can give, we want to hear from you. Find one of our committee members in school, speak to the office or drop us an email to get involved.
What We Do
We have raised funds through public events, in-school events, craft stalls, competitions, raffles and even a charity Christmas single.
From Winter and summer fairs to makers markets, discos and even the North-East's first school-run Iftar community feast, we always aim to break the mould with our events.
We aim to raise the funds to purchase school playground equipment for the yard. We have also bought gowns for the Y6 leavers assembly, funded school discos and provided treats for our pupils.
Our Impact
We are a small team of enthusiastic volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds and we're all making it up as we go along! But we are proud of all we have achieved so far, so here are a few highlights:
Won the ParentKind award for New PTA of the Year 2025
Organised and run events that have seen thousands of people come through our doors
Put on school discos every term for our pupils to let loose and have fun!
Run two Iftar community feasts during Ramadan - something no other primary school in the North-East has done
Bought graduation gowns to make the leavers assembly more special for current and future Y6 groups
